Архипелаг из 14 больших и 55 малых островов (юг шт. Аляска). Расположены по дуге длиной 1740 км. Площадь 37,8 тыс. кв. км. Образуют четыре группы островов: Лисьи, Андреяновские, Крысьи и Ближние [ Fox Islands, Andreanof Islands, Rat Islands, Near Islands]. Большинство островов вулканического происхождения (конусы, нередко покрытые снегом). Около 25 действующих вулканов, наиболее высокий Шишалдина [Shishaldin] (2860 м) на острове Унимак [ Unimak Island]. Субарктические луга, тундра. Птичьи базары. Главный населенный пункт Адак (остров Адак). Пушной промысел (с XVII в.) с центром торговли на о. Уналашка [ Unalaska]. Рыболовство (треска, палтус, сельдь), добыча моржей, тюленя. Население островов - около 8 тыс. человек, в том числе алеуты [ Aleut]. Военно-морская база Датч-Харбор [Dutch Harbor Naval Base] на острове Уналашка. Аэродром и испытательный полигон ядерного оружия на острове Амчитка [Amchitka Island]. Открыты в 1741 экспедицией В. Беринга.
